Location

The Australian Museum is located on the corner of College Street and William Street in central Sydney, just across the road from Hyde Park and opposite St Mary's Cathedral. For directions, please see the Google Map at the end of this page.

The main entrance from College Street, near the corner of William Street, is wheelchair accessible and can be found at what3words///ports.penny.winter.

Bus drop off zone

There is a bus drop off zone on William Street near the Group Entrance: No Parking Coaches Excepted 8am-5pm.

Secure Parking

Secure Parking at the Hilton Hotel Car Park is a ten minute walk away, located within the Hilton Sydney Hotel, Pitt Street.

Convenient to Westfield, Myer, QVB, David Jones and Hyde Park, park here to make your visit to the Australian Museum a visit to the city too!

Wilson Parking

Riley Street

Australian Museum visitors can park at Wilson Parking at 70 Riley St, Darlinghurst for $22* Monday – Friday, and $10** for nights and weekends. To receive the discount, pre-book online or use the Wilson Parking mobile app and use promo code MUSEUM.

The Domain

Australian Museum visitors can park at Wilson Parking – 1 St Mary's Road, Domain for $21 Monday – Friday, and $10 on weekends. To receive the discount, pre-book online or use the Wilson Parking mobile app and use promo code MUSEUM.

*$22 day rate is only available when you pre-book online at 70 Riley Street. Available Monday-Friday, booked entry time must be after 6am, and booked exit time must be before 5pm. Offer is for individual use only and can be used for multiple bookings. Casual parking rates apply if booking conditions are not met.

Wilson Parking

Accessible parking

There is currently no accessible parking available at the Australian Museum. We recommend parking at nearby car parks and metered parking in surrounding streets. Enacon Parking on Cathedral Street has 11 accessible spots and is a 3 minute walk to the Australian Museum. This route has no steps.

There is metered parking available in streets around the museum.

Ride your Bike

There are bike loops along William Street street poles around the AM. Refer to the City of Sydney website for more info on bike riding around the city.

Pram parking

You can park your pram in the pram bay opposite the Billabong Waterhole kiosk on Level 2 in the museum. The whole museum is pram-friendly, with lifts and ramps throughout.

Public Transport

Trains

The nearest train stations are St James, Museum and Town Hall. Each are of equal distance to us and are an easy 7 minute walk.

Please note that Museum Station does not offer lift access at this stage.

If you have a stroller or wheelchair, please note that your journey through Hyde Park will end in stairs at each of the museum corners on College and Park Streets. Level exit is available at the St Mary's Cathedral pedestrian crossing if coming from St James Station, and at the corner of College and Liverpool Streets if coming from Museum Station.

Buses

For bus services arriving in the city centre, alight near Hyde Park or Town Hall and walk east along Park Street towards Kings Cross - a 7 to 10 minute walk.
