The Australian Museum (AM) has COVID-19 protocols in place to help keep our staff and visitors safe. Visitors are asked to delay attending the AM if they:

  • Are feeling unwell in any way
  • Are experiencing flu-like symptoms such as fever, cough, a sore throat or fatigue
  • Have been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19
  • Are awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test or has returned a positive result
  • Have come from overseas and is required by law to quarantine themselves.

We’re also doing our bit to keep the AM a safe space for everyone. Here’s what you can expect from us:

  • We’re cleaning our facilities frequently throughout the day with hospital-grade disinfectants by dedicated, trained team members
  • We’ve installed protective screens in high-traffic locations such as cafés, shops and information desks
  • We ensure that heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are well-maintained and operating as per Australian Standards. We regularly monitor and ensure indoor air quality complies with strict standards; this includes monitoring Carbon Dioxide (CO2)
  • Our staff have undertaken COVID Awareness training and are here to help maintain a safe environment.

FAQ

Are vaccinations required?

From Friday 25 February 2022, the AM no longer requires visitors to the AM to provide proof of vaccination status or medical exemption as a term of entry, in line with updated COVID-19 settings announced by the NSW Government.

While no longer mandatory, we continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated and keep their vaccination status up to date, as a key tool to limit the spread of COVID-19 and keep everyone safe.

Is the AM COVID Safe? What safety measures are you taking?

We are committed to keeping visitors and staff safe and have achieved the NSW Government’s ‘COVID Safe’ industry standard by demonstrating adherence to the respective Government and public health guidelines.

Wearing a fitted face mask is encouraged at Australian Museum for visitors aged 12+.

We have also implemented COVID safety measures, including:

Are all AM Staff vaccinated?

All AM staff on AM premises are fully vaccinated* and we continue to encourage everyone to get vaccinated and keep their vaccination status up to date. From Friday 25 February 2022, the AM no longer requires visitors to the AM to provide proof of vaccination status or medical exemption.

Thanks to the NSW Government, General Admission to the Australian Museum is free for adults and children for a limited time.

General Admission is not timed. AM staff are on duty to assist the safe movement of visitors around the museum.
